This production was mostly complete when it was passed on to me to clean up. The client was not totally satisfied with the result and wanted something more "cinematic".
The first thing I identified with the piece was a lack of strong narrative. Though the events were played out on screen and the individual days were cohesive enough, they played like several short films tacked on to each other. I needed to tie them together.
I added a more dramatic introduction sequence and additional titles in an attempt to get across how high-stakes marathon this was, and the intense challenge that was involved to it's participants.
I cut down several of the days to make them snappier without losing key aspects, as well as replacing some of the music tracks to evoke more of a subtle sense of courage and strain.
I added a final finish day from the raw footage that had previously not been used.
After the re-edit was complete, the film was more watchable and engaging.
It had a strong narrative that interconnected the days highlighting the characters of the people involved.
